So, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I paid for my brand new 2018 Kia Forte (*vomit*). It was listed as $17,330CDN/$13289USD on the window sticker. I walked out having paid $11,720CDN/$9019.86USD. Plus taxes, levys and fees.

That’s $5610CDN or $4300USD of MSRP. As a fraction of the original MSRP, it is 32% (by my math, keeping in mind I am an idiot).

If I got 32% off say, a new 911 Turbo S on Autotrader here in BC (List price, $238,310CDN) it would be a discount of $76259.2o off list price.

I kinda wanted to email Tom McParland and ask what the most he’s seen, in percentage of the vehicles total MSRP, get taken off. What is the most you’ve seen?

Also, as an aside. I remember when our dollar was par (July 22, 2008). Good times.

I got a whopping 10% off MSRP, but I walked out with my car with tax, tags, and title for just under MSRP so that made me happy.

Through the magic of depreciation, I got a car that was 13,150 USD for 1400 USD. That’s 10.6% of list. And it was only 22 years old!

In 2013 when I worked at a Ford dealership it wasn’t uncommon to see 8-12k off a new F-150. I think lowest I ever sold a new one was 28k that was a pretty basic extended cab,  long box 4wd.

I’ve been contemplating posting a short rant about the Kia Forte I rented to drive to Florida a couple of weeks ago, but I decided against it.

However, since you’ve given me a window of opportunity, I’ll say this much: the integration of their infotainment system SUCKS.

The first night while driving I desperately wanted to crank down the illumination on Car Play. Dug into the infotainment menus, found the display settings, found the illumination adjustment. Seemed to do absolutely no good. Found the setting to turn the display entirely off, which worked, but made it harder for me to find the right turn into my hotel in the dark, and I couldn’t figure out how to turn it back on.

The next evening I tried something different: I found and used the dash light illumination adjustment. That one actually worked, unlike the one built into the damned thing, but I had to crank down my dash illumination to effectively 0 to make the display tolerable, so now I couldn’t see anything else important. Why, Kia, why?

I finally cranked up the illumination a bit higher and threw a shirt over the infotainment system. Such technology.

( Not to mention the primitive clock in the dash that had its own adjustment despite the fact that the infotainment system clearly had a synchronized clock.)

My 2011 328i Xdrive. To be fair it also had 102,00 miles. And it’s manual which is great for me, but also hurts the resale to the tune of about 1000-1500 bucks

Yeah, but in ten years it’ll sell for more than the equivalent auto one on Craigslist.

I got a whopping 3% off my outback when I bought it ($750) . But we don’t have sales tax so it still felt like a win. I bet if I was an out of town customer they would not have ceded any room in sale price. Those cars sell out quick.

The manual seems to hurt values on some of the lower optioned cars, but help on some of the higher optioned cars. Loaded 328i/335i with a stick is usually a little more expensive than a comparable 328i/335i with an auto. If we get into M3s, you’re talking anywhere from 2-5k.

yeah the more enthusiast oriented cars have more people looking for manuals. but people looking for an  AWD base model probably also want an automatic.

When I bought my TSX, they were asking $5400 for it, I paid roughly $3600 for it. So that 66% of the list price, or 33.3% off.

That’s crazy, considering they make so much on the F- 150 in general, right? At least, as a total percentage of their profits.

My wife recently got a Mini with just 8,000 miles on it. It listed around $30k new, and we paid about $20k. I’m no math major either, but that’s about 33%. But this is on a three year old car!

Well done, sir.

I just helped a friend negotiate and eventually custom order a BMW 530e for $ 51k.. MSRP as per website was $ 63.5k ~ 20%

I am looking to rep la ce my 2014 7 series with a 2019 740e and I am right now at $ 72,5 00 for a car listed at $ 92600. So close to 21.5%.

Since the taxes are on final purchase price. the actual “discount” will be even higher.

No t a new car, so this probably doesn’t count, but I got my 3 year old K900 for 60% off original sticker when new .  It was still almost pristine; so, this was my first experience with that sweet depreciation.

Goddamn, that’s nice.

Also, I thought of you, there was a Cadenza on the lot for so cheap (relatively for what you get). If I was in the market for a DD sedan, I’d look at that.

I got 24% off my GTI back  in February. Price before tax, tag, title and dealer fees was $19,100. That was new with DSG.
